The Red Room is a short story by H.G. Wells.

Whilst paying homage to the traditional books of the 19th - 20th century, I wanted to typeset this book in a new, contemporary way by creating imagery and pattern using strictly type.

The book starts with white pages and transitions to black pages to represent darkness overwhelming the protagonist in the story. The text in the middle of the book is printed backwards on red vellum paper, This means you have to read the text through the paper on the back, This design decision was inspired by the themes of shadow and ghosts.

These are a few spreads from the project.
